WHAT IS GUAYUSA?
Nú Infusions is here to help you discover guayusa ("gwhy-yoo-sa"), an Amazonian superleaf that is brewed to create a smooth-tasting infusion packed with antioxidants and a host of other health benefits. Guayusa has similar levels of caffeine to coffee, but it also has many of the relaxing compounds found in tea. The result is a uniquely calm and sustained energy, without the anxiety or crash of coffee, but with more of a lift than you get from a green or black tea.
For centuries, indigenous peoples of the Ecuadorian Amazon have begun their day by gathering together as a community to drink guayusa. Now, this special leaf is making itself known to the rest of the world.
Guayusa combines the caffeine content of coffee with the relaxing compounds found in tea, such as L-theanine. The result is a uniquely focused and smooth energy, with no jitters and no crash.
Guayusa has benefits not only for the mind, but also the body. It has more antioxidants than green tea, as well as a healthy serving of chlorogenic acids, vitamins and all 15 essential amino acids.
Guayusa has a deliciously smooth taste. Its unique smoothness is due to the fact that it contains virtually no tannins, which cause the bitterness in green and black tea. This means it can be steeped for a long time without getting bitter, and it does not require any sweetners or milk. It works great as a hot tea or cold with a squeeze of lime.
Our organic-certified guayusa is grown in Ecuador in rainforest gardens that reflect and support the natural beauty and biodiversity of the region. In this way, the guayusa industry is demonstrating a way to preserve the Amazon rainforest and meet agricultural needs within it, rather than replacing it with monoculture plantations or giving land to the logging, oil, or mining sectors.
To ensure a fair wage for farmers, we at Nú Infusions are also committed to only partnering with guayusa suppliers that pay farmers at least 15% above the Fairtrade minimum.
In addition to our pure guayusa blend, we have created two mixed blends: one to bring out guayusa's refreshing side (blended with peppermint) and another to highlight its richer notes (blended with cocoa & cinnamon). All three blends are made solely with organic-certified ingredients, without resorting to the use of extracts or flavourings.
